Not your average year.
Not your average school.
Not your average JOE.
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR JOE CHAIRS
To say the least, 2020 has been far from average. Through these not-so-average times, and even from a distance, our Emery/Weiner community has risen to remind us that it, too, is anything-but-average. What we have learned together is that the joy of education from EWS is not just contained within the walls of the school. To be certain, JOE is undeniably present in every campus classroom, on each performance stage, on the sports fields, in the gymnasium, and everywhere in between. But JOE can also be found in every student, teacher, faculty member and administrator here at The Emery/Weiner School.
Despite so much uncertainty around us, EWS has remained steadfast in its commitment to provide a superior, engaging, and joyful education to its students. It has been and continues to be here for our children and our school community: meeting behind the scenes to determine how best to fulfill our school's mission in light of these unusual circumstances; adapting curriculum and providing resources to accommodate a virtual model of teaching and the ultimate return to campus; keeping abreast of constantly changing information and guidelines; and doing everything in its power to continue to provide an exceptional EWS education to our students.
Our faculty, in particular, should be recognized for all they have done and continue to do for our students and our school. Beginning in March, our faculty was forced to either adapt or abandon months on end of academic planning and meticulously prepared curriculum as we closed the school's doors in response to the pandemic. Zoom became our teachers’ only means of reaching and teaching their students... sometimes even through glitching, signal-compromised internet connections. Yet, in the face of so many challenges, our teachers still managed to keep our kids engaged, on-task, and joyfully learning. Now that we have returned to campus, our faculty has successfully pivoted back to an in-person model of teaching, but one quite different than what they knew before. And, yet again, they have adapted to meet the needs and for the benefit of our students' experience here at EWS.
We are so truly grateful to our faculty for all that they have done for our school and our students. Not only have they demonstrated great commitment and adaptability during such uncertain times, but they have done so with strength of leadership, efficiency, resilience. and grace. We honor them at this year's virtual Joy of Education Celebration for their passion and creativity, their ability to give our kids a sense of normalcy and continuity in their education during such hectic and unpredictable times, and for always - even through a historic pandemic - bringing the JOY OF EDUCATION to our students here at The Emery/Weiner School.
We are so lucky to have them.
